The Kunene River basin, located in the western part of southern Africa encompasses portions of southern Angola and northern Namibia. The basin is characterised by diverse climate patterns with abundant precipitation in the upper and water scarcity in the lower basin, as well as a significant but controversially discussed hydroelectric potential, and a transboundary management setting.
The Kunene River Awareness Kit (RAK) is an information and knowledge management tool for the Kunene River basin, to support capacity development as well as the sustainable management of the environment and resources within the basin. The RAK is one part of the PJTC Kunene and SADC's efforts to raise public awareness of transboundary water resources management issues in southern Africa.
As a part of the SADC Water Sector, the Permanent Joint Technical Committee (PJTC) of Kunene, which is co-chaired in Luanda, Angola, and Windhoek, Namibia, is committed to the principles of Integrated Water Resources Management.
